Senior/Lead 3D Designer / Interior Architect (Maternity Cover)


Location: London (Office-based a minimum of 3 days a week)

Contract Type: Fixed-Term Contract / Freelance (Maternity Cover: 8–9 months initial, with potential part-time extension)

Start Date: Late November / Early December

Remuneration: Competitive day rate or pro-rata salary based on experience

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior 3D Designer / Interior Architect to step in as maternity cover, leading design deliverables across our retail, pop-up, and hospitality projects.

You will hit the ground running alongside our small, collaborative team, taking ownership of projects from initial creative concept through to client delivery and site execution. An early start in late November/early December will ensure a seamless handover, allowing you to settle into our workflow and connect with key clients ahead of the festive break.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead Creative Concepting: Translate briefs into high-impact design concepts, producing comprehensive mood boards, material palettes, and visual narratives.

  • High-End Visualisation & Documentation: Oversee and produce detailed 3D visuals (3D Studio max plus Vray), intermediate-to-advanced technical drawing packages (AutoCAD), and polished client decks.

  • Client & Project Management: Act as the primary design point of contact in client presentations, design development sessions, and status updates.

  • Team Leadership & Workflow: Guide project timelines, maintain quality standards across deliverables, and mentor junior studio support where needed.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Professional Experience: 8+ years in interior architecture or spatial design, with proven delivery in retail, pop-up, or hospitality environments.

  • Technical Mastery:

  • Advanced 3D rendering and visualisation skills (3ds Max / SketchUp + V-Ray or equivalent).

  • Strong technical fluency in AutoCAD for spatial planning and detail drawing packages.

  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator) for client-ready presentations.

  • Autonomous Delivery: Ability to run a project independently, interpret client feedback constructively, and problem-solve on site.

  • Strong Communication: Confident presenting directly to clients, suppliers, and external fabricators.

Contract Duration & Timeline

  • Handover & Onboarding: Late November / Early December (full-time or structured days).

  • Primary Cover: February – July (approx. 6 months full-time during maternity leave).

  • Return Transition: Opportunity to retain hours or consult part-time for an additional 3 months as the director transitions back.
